the bar for inpatient admission for mental health problems - especially for patients without insurance - had risen higher and higher during the years i'd been in practice . the bar had become so high that friends and family members were often required to do a terrifying job - suicide watch - that should only ever be handled by clinical professionals in contrlled settings .
